about
10 years after the arrival of The Bamboos, a new young band is flying the Funk flag high again in Australia. Heavily influenced by both classic New Orleans Funk and neo-funk/soul/afro bands coming from the Daptone stable, The Cactus Channel 10-piece funk orchestra has been on heavy heavy rotation at Paris DJs in 2012. They only released two high-octane bassy funk 45s and a full-length album so far, but those were all substantially relayed in the Paris DJs Soundsystem mixes & blog, and even selected in the groove experts year-end selection of singles and albums! Thanks to their label, HopeStreet Recordings, French reggae/afro/funk/jazz producer Grant Phabao managed to get his hands on The Cactus Channel's 'Budokan' track, and cooked up one of his legendary reggae remixes. One all about the summer breeze, as if Cali weed could be extracted from Australian cactuses… Roll a phat one or help yourself with a nice cocktail drink, sit back in the sun and enjoy!
